>I’m seriously thinking of taking the boy to see the mouse.

Every American kid should see the mouse once right?  He’s been asking for years of course, now he is thirteen and this is his last year home schooling so the last chance we have to do things “off season” as it were.

Everybody knows nobody knows a tourist trap like a local and how to do things the most economically and efficiently I should think.  So, what I need from you guys is tips and suggestions.  Secrets of the mouse as it were.  Best time to go to avoid crowds as much as possible – mid week?  Which month?  Where the best place to stay might be – reasonably close and best price?  Feelings on ticket deals? Package prices?  I know you can get the ticket info on line but just checking if you guys might know something that would help me make the best choice. Just any advice at all about time there would be soooo helpful.

I’m willing to stay there as much as maybe four days to really get the job done.  It will almost certainly be just me and the boy and I feel he has waited this long and will likely not go again until he has his own kids so why not do it up right?

Last time this family visited the mouse was fifteen years ago and it was as guests of Make a Wish and Give Kids the World.  They sort of handled all the arrangements.  Let me tell you, those folks can really do it up right and we’ll be forever grateful (we send them donations every year and I’d heartily recommend them as worthy places to donate).  The boy was not yet part of the crew and we did things that trip that we’ll never be able to do again – plus I’m sure in fifteen years some things have changed, that whole Animal Kingdom thing for starters.

Anyways, help?!

 – Reservations made, All Star Movie Resort
 – tickets purchased, 5 day – with park hopper and water park option

Staying at the park may be a little more, but I don’t have to worry about parking, we have access to the extended hours, it is easy to get back and forth to parks and we can take a nap mid day if we want.  Plus I’ve always wanted to stay in the park (though admittedly at something like the Grand Floridian and that just ain’t happening).  Also I want to do this up right for the boy this once. Since it will be just the two of us I can splurge a little.  The only question now is do I buy tickets for the Halloween with Mickey thing – I expect I probably will.

    >Writersblock would be of great help in this area, as she and Sherlock live there and know the parks very well.We went one September and the weather was lovely and the lines were short. Here's my only tip: stay on property. I know most people try to save some money by getting a hotel in Kissimmee or the surrounding area… but staying in a Disney resort hotel is well worth the little extra you spend… and they send shuttles round every so often. You don't have to drive if you don't want.I loved it. Hope you guys have a wonderful time!

    >Oddly enough, the Missus and I were considering the same trip this fall, timed to coincide with the November (previously, September) shuttle mission. We both grew up on the Space Coast (my folks still live there) and we want the kids to see a shuttle launch before they stop flying. We figured that while we're doing that, the kids are finally old enough where they might both enjoy a visit to the big D.I want to hit Disney and Epcot during our trip, but we're going to stay out on the beach (Cocoa Beach or Satellite Beach, where the folks live) because it's only an hour's drive away. However, in your case I have read that they do have some decent room/ticket packages these days. We used one in the past to stay at Animal Kingdom; that particular hotel is quite nice.Another thing to check into is resident fares. Locals used to be able to get discounts on tickets, so if you know someone who lives down there you might be able to score them that way.
